From my favorite State, Virginia, comes an idea whose time has come!
I was looking through some social media articles that I had saved on my #Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and I saw something very intriguing…
First of all, do you love wine? A good brew or cider? Or are you just wine/brew/cider curious?
Would you like to explore your local wineries and breweries but you find that there are just too many new local places to keep up with? Not to mention the finger cramping web searches to find out what locations are near you and then more searching around to see if they have a website or any customer reviews…All of this time spent, just to find out more about them before deciding to take the time to visit!
Well in central Virginia the industry is rapidly growing and founder Kris Subhash and Mike Rumbaugh, his business partner, both UVA – Darden School of business students, saw the need to make the entire process easier. Thus they created an app called the Virginia Vinehopper. This app lets you virtually explore and find Virginia wineries, breweries, cideries and more!
And yes, I tried it. After downloading the app from the Google play store onto my #Samsung, I was brought to a screen which gave me five options. I clicked on the Wineries tab and was taken to all the wineries in my local and extended area…And…To my delight, I found a winery close by in beautiful & historic Clifton, Virginia!
To learn more about the winery that interested me , I clicked on the Paradise Springs Winery selection and was then taken to a screen that offered information and options to further explore this winery, such as their “Location info” which has the address and displays the location on a map. Then the hours of operation are displayed along with the tasting fees and any other pertinent event or tour information. Getting “Directions” to the facility – Giving them a “Call” – Going to “Visit the website”– Seeing if there are reviews “View on Yelp” and Saving the information/”Add to favorites.” I also had an option to “Check in.”
I chose the option which allowed me to view the website and the website opened up in the VineHopper’s browser window.
So, without leaving the application, I gathered a lot of information about the local, and not so local, wineries.
Now I am ready to take my out-of-town visitors…or my #DC metro area friends & family, on an adventure into Virginia’s Wine country…and yes Virginia has won awards for their wines!
With a quick touch of the icon on my cell phone, I will simply open the application, view my chosen favorites and away we will go!
This is exciting news to those of us who comb through dozens of websites looking for the latest news, events and adventures yet to explore!
**If you have #Verizon, take advantage of the Navigator on your phone – it will help you find the best gas prices to start you off on your adventure! Or to find your way home after your wine tasting! 🙂
So for now…Cheers to #technology & #apps that enhance my lifestyle! ~Debra

As a member of a pretty cool team of influencers, I received the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with line of service from Verizon. No additional compensation was provided nor did I promise positive feedback. All opinions are my own
